How to Organize Your Garage with Wall Racks

Is your garage not only storing your vehicle, but also clutter? If so, then it’s time to drive out disorder, and drive in order. Not only can an untidy garage be a nuisance, but it can also be a safety hazard and fire hazard. Here are some tips to make your garage as tidy as possible:

1. Use the right containers.

Like using decorative hooks and coat racks in a closet, using the right containers in your garage can be quite effective. There’s virtually an unlimited number of containers available, of different shapes and sizes. One of the most effective ways to use containers and bins when organizing your garage is through a color-coding system. You could use one color for tools, another for car supplies, and so on. Also, when choosing containers for garage storage, make sure that they’re fire-resistant and child-proof. This will keep you and your family safe and sound in the garage.

2. Install shelving or cabinets in your garage.

This provides an outstanding way to store items in your garage. Make sure to place the heaviest items atop the lowest shelves in your garage. And if your garage is short on space, then you could install shelves above the height of your car or truck, on the three walls of the garage.

3. Use lockable bins for valuable items.

Yes, there’s still the chance that someone could steal the whole bin, which would make the locks impractical. But the locks would function as a deterrent for most people interested in casually removing items form the bins. Just like coat racks in your closet, the items in containers stored in your garage are also investments. So it’s crucial to protect them!

4. Drive out the clutter.

Like other areas in your home, it’s crucial to rid your garage of clutter, before you start to organize it. Depending on the state of the stuff, you should take different actions. Toss broken items into the “circular file” (trashcan). Fix items that can be repaired. And sell stuff that you can’t use anymore, in a yard sale or garage sale. The key is to rid your garage of as much clutter as possible before you start organizing it. The less clutter there is, the easier it will be to organize the rest of the stuff!

5. Keep it together.

Just as you could use color-coded coat hangers to organize your closet, you should group similar items together. This will help to keep everything organized. That includes sporting gear, tools, auto repair materials, and so on.

6. Use wall hooks.

This allows you to hang a variety of items, such as tools and bikes. Such wall hooks can be just as effective as those installed in closets. Since the hooks will need to store fairly heavy items, it’s crucial that they’re installed correctly. That will help to protect the investment you’ve made in anything you place on the hooks.

It’s reasonable to store stuff besides your vehicle, in your garage. But the key is to do it safely and effectively. These tips will help to drive out clutter, and drive in organization!
