How to Organize Your Closet Using Coat Racks

Does your closet look like the aftermath of a tornado? If so, then it’s time to organize it. Many of us use our closets as a depository for storing anything and everything. But that can become a problem when you need to grab something in a jiffy. Here are some easy yet effective tips to transform your closet from a disaster zone, to an area where you can access everything with ease:

1. Color-code your clothes

Not only does this improve the aesthetic value of your closet, but it will help to select items from it, more efficiently. For instance, you could have one color for jackets, one for pants, another one for shirts and blouses-well, you get the picture. You could even use this organizing method to group sub-categories of clothes together. For instance, you could have a different floor for short and long sleeve shirts or blouses, and so on.

2. Remove everything before rearranging it

This is one of the most crucial steps for rearranging everything in your closet, including clothes on coat hangers and coat racks. After doing that, the process of organizing the contents of your closet will be significantly easier.

3. Use more shelving

Like a wall rack, shelves are perfect for storing items such as hats or purses. When adding shelves to your closet, there are several options, including the size, material, and location of the shelves. Considering these factors carefully can avoid future problems, such as shorter people being unable to reach shelves.

4. Add hooks to the sides of the closet

This is especially practical if the doors of your closet don’t swing out. You can add a variety of wall hooks to the walls of your closet. Such hooks are perfect whether you need to store hats, belts, scarves, and so on. These items tend to cause some of the most clutter in closets.

5. Store clothes that don’t fit anymore

To free up more space, don’t store such clothes on clothes racks or other similar areas in your closet. That’s not to say that you should get rid of them, since there’s always the chance that you could lose enough weight to fit into them again. However, if you can’t fit into certain clothes, then they’d basically waste space hanging around (pun intended) in your closet.

6. Get professional help

There’s recently been a skyrocketing interest in organizing closets. That means that regardless of where you live, you can likely find a closet-organizing professional, with ease. He or she can help to organize everything in your closet, using various objects (such as coat racks).

7. Organize your clothing by function

This could include everyday clothes, work clothes, formal clothes, and so on. This will help you to access the clothing in your closet more easily.

Even if your closet’s a royal mess, it doesn’t have to be that way! These tips will help to simplify the seemingly complex process of organizing your closet. By taking the right steps, you can avoid feeling like Chicken Little each time you walk into your closet.
