Every home needs a coat rack. For one, it makes it easier on everyone as it minimizes the
clutter of clothes. Seeing a coat hanging on the arm of that Windsor chair or a hat just
carelessly hung over the head of that figurine is so unsightly. Coat racks address that clutter headache. To many, there is nothing more to a hook and a block of wood to coat racks. They’re boring and basic. They do not need to be given much thought at all. I, however, beg to differ. Coat racks need not be the uniformed and monotonous wood and hook. In fact, just like furniture, there are many creatively designed coat racks out there to choose from; those that fit and compliment your interior design or theme. Here are a couple of categories or examples that may strike your fancy:
Fun
If you are one who likes to play around with humor, knife and dart coat rack designs could be your choice. The literal use of knives (or darts) embedded in the walls are a fresh escape from the usual straight-edged hook and wood kind. These are best for people with modern homes with a huge wall space to spare and also for those with a slightly naughty sense of humor.
Multi-purpose
Here’s an idea from designer Scott Amron that doubles for both the aesthetics and purpose: the shed hook. Designed akin to a tool shed, with a flat hook plate protruding from its front, this coat rack works both as a letter holder as well as a, you got it, coat rack. It can even hold your house keys for you.
Innovative
There are a couple of unique or ratherweird designs of coat racks, which you may never find in a typical home. For one, there is one coat rack dubbed the Symbol Coat Rack, which appears like an appliance unit of some sort. It looks like a white rectangular bar with vertical LED lights arranged across. However, with a little pull of those LED light-like thingamajigs, surprise, a coat hook slides out!
Artful
Now, how about a coat rack that doesn’t look like one? There is a coat rack shaped in the form of an ivy plant. Its limbs and vine-like arms work as the hooks on which you hang your coats on. The best thing about it? It looks like a modern piece of art on your wall.
Novel
Can a coat rack ever be a piece of art? Of course, it can. Lovers of cowboys and Indians are
going to love the "Catching the Wild" coat rack. Made from steel and rope, it convincingly appears as a lasso rope trick suspended in eternity. Shock and Awe For the lover of practical jokes, there is the Dismembered Doll Arm coat rack. Now
it’s not as morbid as it sounds. It merely gives a twist to that Hand me your coat gesture. Imagine your guests’ shock (and awe) when they realize that your coat rack has arms
extending to take their coats! It’ll be the talk of the night. Gone are the days of the mean-looking steel and wood coat rack poking out like a sore thumb in your minimalist living room. These days, there is a coat rack for every home.
